I really think it is one of the Spitz varieties, Seppala Siberian Sled Dog, which is in process of being separated from the Alaskan Husky.

People do cross dogs with wolves, but I have yet to see one that I could call domesticated.

Edit: Believe it or not, a pomeranian is remarkably closer to a wolf than some others that appear more similar.

The dog which Phantom has with him a cross breed... half dog & half wolf.... closest to a wolf.(Phantom: The Ghost Who Walks...)

Jokes apart, Northern breeds of dogs -- the Alaskan Malamute, Akita, Chow, Siberian Husky, and related breeds -- are closest to the wolf.

Actually, I have a Husky and know a lot about this breed, and they are as close to being related to a wolf as a Chihuahua is. Huskies and Malamutes may resemble wolves quite strongly, but they are not part wolf and wolves were not used to create these breeds. Wolves and Dogs are two completely different species.

The DNA Of a dog and a wolf are almost identical. DNA can not differentiate the difference from one breed to the next. It can however, distinguish parentage.

The Malamute is part wolf; I know this for sure I forget what % exactly it all depends if they are breed with a wolf, Malamute, husky, etc. since that will of course increase the % of actual wolf they have in the lines. kd

Probably Siberian Huskies. But they are not really that similar either; a wild dog will always be wild, no matter how long it is kept in captivity.
