These are the two sides of manic-depression, or bipolar disorder. And yes they are different, though as far as your body and brain go, probably not based on the chemical inbalance, but on what is does to your heart rate and blood pressure, yes!

Not if you happen to be in a severe mixed state, when you exhibit a mixture of manic and depressive symptoms. Otherwise, they are two poles on the same continuum.
