I feel like I'm dying. I have the chills, vomiting, dirrahea, and a constant creeping sensation in my skin. My vitals are normal and so was bloodwork. So, why am I so sick? I can't sleep and haven't slept for five days. I don't know what can be done. I'm on Septra. Could it be the Septra? If I go off of it, how dangerous is that?

MRSA stands for Methacillin Resistant Staph Aureus. It just means that the Staph you have is resistant to an important strain of antibiotics. Staph. aureus is a common bacteria that is on you skin and in you nose normally. MRSA is just a mutant strain of it. Where is the staph infection?? If it is systemic then it could make you feel real shitty. You should go back and see the doctor again.

I'm a dentist.

You could be having a reaction to the Septra (more commonly known as Bactrim). Are you allergic to sulfa drugs? Allergic to any other medications?

It is possible, as far as I know, for MRSA to become systemic, and certainly fever and chills are significant (but can also be caused by allergic reaction--again, as far as I know). Of course, if your blood work was normal, then I'd be more inclined to think that your symptoms are related to the medication.

There are certainly other antibiotics that can be used to treat MRSA. Rifampin, for example.

before you go off the septra check with the dr. it could be a allergic reaction, but those are some of the side effects of both the illness and the medication. Never, ever stop taking medication untill you speak to the doctor first.

The chills, creeping and nausea sound like an allergic reaction I had to Septra; how long have you been on it? It took a week (for blood level to rise of the drug) for the allergic reaction to set in. Talk to your Dr. about it and try to get on another drug if he thinks it is an allergic reaction.

MRSA could make you sick. If have been afebrile, or your WBC (white count quantity have been wide-spread) and do a minimum of two blood cultures on the top of any fever or chills. If all damaging, have a urine lifestyle besides. See your surgeon

Yes please go to the doctor. I had MRSA five years ago from a complication from a surgery. I got very sick and had to go on very powerful antibiotics which could have led to blindness or trouble hearing. I even had to sign a waiver before they could give me the medicine. I don't want to scare you but it's something that needs to be taken care of. GO TO THE DOCTOR!!! I hope this helps.
