OHMs is the measure of resistance in an electrical circuit. Your amp is rated at a specific output at 4 ohms, your speakers produce twice that resistance. If you had 2 8 OHM speakers in that circuit, your resistance drops to 4 OHMs (parallel). In other words, you'll be fine. What you want to avoid is running LESS than 4 OHMs...

No, but you're reducing the power transmission efficiency. Ideally you want four ohms output to match four ohms in the load.

You can actually turn two pairs of 8 ohm speakers into a 4 ohm set of speakers by installing a pair on each channel *in parallel* (not in series!). If you have any questions, email me and I can help you out.

Running a speaker with an impedance that is higher than what the amp can handle will always cause the amp to run hot. However most amps come with circuits that automatically cut off the amp if it overheats. You can do this, but try not to play it for long hours on high volumes. Cheers!

No you will not mess up the amp, you can hook up 8ohm speakers, but you will only get about half the power output that your 4ohm car stereo is rated at, no biggie it will still sound good, have fun! :)
