Because they are easily one of the best nations on Earth. What you said is so true. Their crime is almost non-existant, literacy is just about the highest in the world (99.9%), and they do actually have the highest life expectancy (81.25 years). They are so different from us but in many ways so much better, these reasons mainly.

They have a brilliant diet which does help them live much longer, they develop and have some of the best technological devices invented yet they do not abandon respect for nature (this explains the fact pollution isn't so bad there as comapred to many other countries).

They still respect one another, respect their elders and abide by the laws of the land, both legal and moral.

They are also the most intelligent people on Earth. On average East Asians are the most intelligent race around, on average.(See links) Even though I'll be labelled as racist for saying this its the truth. These are proper test results and objective. All score South East Asians on top as an average.

Also they don't have any religious troubles that seem to follow the major religions. No suicide bombers, not bible-huggers, nothing like that. Christianity isn't very big there, nor are the other religions that seem to cause trouble where they go whether its the religion to blame or not (Islam, Judaism, Hinduism)

And to think they did it all without the bible which is supposed to teach us all how to live as wonderful, happy people..... and yes, life would be sweeter without those who've found the lord.

they do not let illegal immigrants in and then give them citizenship for breaking their laws but put them in jail and keep them there a long time as for the crime rate. They start the learning at a very young age and have a good diet for the most part, mostly vegetarian. Fewer Christians will only make the problem worse here as there will be more Mexicans and athiests that believe in nothing but more crime. Break the laws as they will be rewarded if enough get on the bandwagon to lobby for rights they don't have the guts to fight for the right way. Amnesty for breaking our laws, that is the ticket, now don't you agree?

Did you know that only the Japanese have a word for "death by working overtime"? They have an enormously high rating on the suicide scale as well. So maybe they have a high life expectancy but only if they don't die from karoshi or suicide first. I do agree on your point that fewer christians would be nice. And not just in the states by the way.

They are a collectivist culture so they place very high importance on family and honor. As such, literacy is expected because it brings honor on the family to achieve well and crime is low because it brings great shame on the family. Basically, the Japanese are shamed into behaving well. The problem with Americans is they lack shame.

I do not think it is religion based, it may be that they are very disciplined. They religiously perform duties, honor family, have a narrow diet...they import all but fish.....

But, this is changing. The west is creeping in, they are adopting practices and attitudes that were not so apparent 50 years ago. There needs to be a new study done.

And, bringing up Christianity....is this a troll? It had no bearing on the question.

~~~ Larry,,, I am a blonde, blue eyed atheist(converted from christianity) who has lived among the Japanese people as a boy and adult, and have studied their philosophies. Everything you say about Japan is true, but your supposition is very flawed, understandably. I also agree that the US needs fewer christians, but to what alternative? The basic reason for Japanese culture being so different from ours is their concept of Tolerance of Others, ie. Respect. Their Application of The Golden Rule. In their Mythologies they understand that "God Essence" is inherent in ALL things, to varying degrees. The Human having most. Having most, one is compelled by obligation and responsibility to live a righteous life BY EXAMPLE.
Any country that has a strong homogenius society is less dangerous. There are some countries that have major religious problems and they would not be considered homogenius even though they are from the same country and therefore more crime.
Japanese people see themselves as a part of a greater whole: the japanese society. In contrast to that Americans view themselves as individuals merely co existing with their society. It's easier to cause harm to something when you don't feel you're a part of it.
