Please help me... I need free, easy techniques to keep me calm in the face of a mad house.. I left uni and all my friends this year, am currently looking for a job, I have four very needy dogs (chihuahuas) around my ankles (only one of them is mine), living with a father in law that I can't stand and am looking for a way to calm down and ease up on it all... please help me!
p.s. I know so many others have it far worse than me but it doesn't stop me feeling stressed to the max :S

Stress can lead to many medical complications. I recommend that you try deep breathing, reading in a quiet area of the house, take a walk, chamomile tea is a very good natural relaxant, lavender scented bath, the most important thing to do, is take time for yourself. That is essential for maintaining balance in a stressful environment. and if your a religious person, pray.

I know exactly how you feel. The first, best thing is probably to know that someone definately simpathizes with you and cares. Next, there are a variety of things you can do. Exercise does help, it helps release endorphines, which make you happy. There is also the option of writing in a journal. There are many versions of this, from Myspace blogs, to other journal blogs online, or, if you wish to keep it to yourself, get a simple bound notebook and write in it, keeping in mind to vent all your frustrations there, no matter what it means you wirte (your journal will not yell at you! :} ). You can also write stories, if you have that kind of imagination, which can help you escape. Otherwise, meditation is a good technique, if you can do it. Last, always get as much sleep as possible! This helps your mind repair the inbalances that can cause stress and anxiety. Hope this helps, from one stressed out person to another! :)

Pray....I know it sounds too simple but it works!
I think it helps to keep a prayer journal too so that in a few weeks you can look back and see how your prayers have been answered.
God can bring comfort to whatever situation you are in...and many times when you are feeling like life is out of control, that is when God is stretching you to learn and grow in ways you never knew possible!
And remember...God is in Control...that should take some of the pressure off! : )

Don't go out today just running around. Stay at home put on some cozy pajama's. Crawl in bed, with the door shut. And if you have a TV in your room just relax and watch a good movie with some hot chocolate.

1. sit up straight against a wall and inhale as much air as you can. Then exhale as much as you can. Repeat 10-20 times. It's called "pranayam" in yoga.
2. lie down on the bed with a posture where you are lying on your back, as can be seen in http://www.yogsansthan.org/asanpage/shavasan.htm Read the article to follow how you can relax yourself. This is "shavasan" in yoga. This is the best way for complete rest.

Take them little doggies for a nice long brisk walk. You'll be getting fresh air, some exercise and out of the house for a bit. Nice way to detach and let go.
I walk to and from work everyday, 2 miles each way. Walk there gets me ready for the insanity, walk home chills me so I don't hurt anyone.................
