Is it better to use a slice of bread? or a slice of apple to keep them soft?

a slice of bread works best, i send cookies all over the states every christmas so i have to start baking around thanksgiving. freeze anything that doesn't have icing, i put cookies in baggies with wax paper between each layer, then freeze. never had any complaints yet. if they require icing, send along a can of icing from the store, cookies with icing don't ship well, or package well.

in my house they don't last long at all. My husband eats the dough before I can get it to the oven. But if you don't have that problem I freeze them in a zipper bag with a 1/2 slice of bread. when you take them out of freezer bread will absorb the excess moisture. If you just want them to be on the counter keep them in a tupperware or glad storage container with a 1/2 slice of bread. Apples work too but then you get an apple taste to the cookie.

I don't know, but if you put a couple of slices of apple in the package with them it will help keep them soft. Cookies are good for a while and even if they get hard, you can dunk 'em. Damn you now i'm hungry for cookies!

They have preservatives in them. Some stores, like the one i work at has fresh baked cookies, and they only have a 7 day shelf life. to me, store bought cookies are to hard and almost taste stale

It depends on the kind, if you freeze them they will last longer but will not taste as fresh. Good luck! :) , sounds like a yummy gift!

If you make them right before giving, they should last about one week or so. Sometimes the recipe will tell you how to keep them if they are particularly unusual.

Put them in the freezer! We do it every year, then on gift giving day just sit out to warm up.

Well, the best thing is to eat them in the first couple days, when they are fresh. I doubt that after 3 or more days will have the same good taste...
