Dear Lover of Bible,
Christians should obey God rather than government, when the government makes a law that is contrary to God's law. A case in point was when a law was passed by the Medes and Persians that if any man made a petition of any God or man for 30 days, except of King Darius, that person shall be cast into a den of lions. Daniel, of course, prayed to the LORD 3 times a day with his windows open. Daniel was thrown into the den of lions but God closed their mouths that they did not harm him. Then King Darius threw the men who had him make this decree and their families into the lions den. They were all destroyed by the lions.
You'll find another example in Daniel 3 with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. King Nebuchadnezzar had made an image and commanded that when people heard music, they were to fall down and worship the image. The penalty for not obeying the King's law was to be cast into a burning fiery furnace. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego loved the LORD and would not worship the image. However, the LORD delivered them out of death.
The point is that we should ALWAYS obey God, regardless of circumstances.

You obey the earthly government until the earthly government tries to force you to disobey the commands in the Bible.
An example of this is Las Vegas, where Christians especially, were told they couldn't feed the homeless in the parks where they gathered.
The Christian is to obey Christ, and take care of those in need. Those who were in need were being fed. The city officials then created an ordinance to prevent the feeding of the homeless in parks. Yet, God has required us to do the thing that was suddenly illegal.
In the early church, there was the law for people to offer a sacrifice to Jupiter. They received a document which would prove they were loyal to Caesar's commands. Christians were faced with a dilemma: they could sacrifice to Jupiter and receive the document, and live in safety, or they could refuse, and live as a fugitive, or be martyred. Some forsook their God, while others suffered martyrdom. These chose to obey God rather than man. But, when we make the choice, either way, there are consequences for that choice.

Always, especially in the Tyrrannical post 9/11 NewWorldOrder new US Government. They plan to take away all of our God Given Rights in the name of "Security". That is Bush, Kerry, and the Skull and Bones people.
If the government is a Christian and is obeying God's Laws, then obey it.

Christians should normally obey both. In democracies, most laws are a reasonable accommodation of the varying needs of the many, since elections offer us the opportunity to "throw the bums out" if they pass bad laws.
However, I think Christians should acknowledge the primacy of a (well-informed) conscience. Even more important than obeying laws is obeying one's soul. If you lived in Nazi Germany, for instance, and knew in your heart of hearts that it was immoral to turn in Jewish people, your obligation to God and your conscience would be to obey the moral law, and not the depraved laws of Hitler.

Sadly there are some Christians already suggesting that!
But hang on a moment - who is going to interpret what Gods rule is. There are plenty of Christian zealots out there on both sides of all arguments. Take abortion, anti or pro, there are Christians on both sides - who decides what Gods answer is?
The simple answer is that Government sets the rules for the countries running of society. If you cannot live in that country in obeyance of it's laws you had better emigrate or face prison!!! Not for your beliefs but because you would be breaking the law!!

Only when they are obeying the Golden Rule and not being obsessed with casting the first stones, so to speak. It's great if they are doing charity work and praying and such, but they have no business telling people whether or not they should be in same-sex marriages.

The Bible says that we must obey our governments, but at the same time if that government violates the laws of God, then we can rebel.

Jesus answered the Pharisees when they asked about taxes (they were trying to trick Him).
He told them to give them a coin. He asked whose picture was on the coin - they answered Caesar's. He said give unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, give unto God that which is God's. We follow governmental law UNLESS they conflict with God's laws.
