I'm not sure why you would talk to your canadian gov't about tuition to an american university....unless canada has some sort of tuition payment program for students studying in the US that i have never heard of before.

You should def contact the financial aid office of the school you want to apply to, and also contact their international students dept. Most major universities will have a seperate dept. that deals specifically with international student issues and can help you with housing and visa requirements too, if a J-1 is needed for canadians.

You dont need to contact a bunch of schools though. Each school will tell you pretty much the same thing. At any public university you will have to pay the out of state tuition rate. At a private school everyone pays the same amount.

When you talk to the financial aid office they will probably tell you that you are not eligible for grants or federal loans since you aren't an american, but be sure to ask about alternative loans. Since you are canadian, most american banks will still feel comfortable with lending to you, so you should look into banks that deal specifically in student loans, like sallie mae. They have lower interest rates, higher approval rates, and no limit to how much you can borrow. Your school decides the amount you can borrow based on your cost of attendance.

Contact the Financial Aid Advisor at the university you would like to attend. Let them know your situation. I'm not sure about the specifics on how to get financial aid if you live outside the US, but the advisor will be able to help. Good Luck!

Decide which school you want to go to and then call that financial aid office and talk to them. You can call any school but more than likely they will only give you generic info..the specific school can tell you about their scholarships, private grants, their tuition, etc. so first get on the internet and decide which school you want to attend..Be aware that your tuition will be REALLY high since you are from another country.
