I always wanted to know what food group maple syrup was from.

it actually falls under the "extras" category on the Canada Food guide, which means you should use is sparigingly. It is very high in natural sugars, and calories.

Syrup is made from sap from a sugar maple tree which is diluted Glucose (sugar).

To make the syrup they boil the water out of the sap. If it gets boiled further it makes maple butter, which is almost pure sugar.

Sweets and carbohydrates. Eat lots of McGriddles from McDonalds since the Maple syrup is already in the pancake.

Carbohydrates and sugars, of course. That is what it is and it is valuable for adding energy. Not good to eat too much of it however!
