I was wondering if I could Macromedia Flash MX somewhere for free. I practically know you can't, so are there any similiar programs that are free?

Nothing else even close. There are some open source projects underway through sourceforge, but nothing ready for primetime yet.
Buy an old version of MX on ebay from a good vendor. Also look at education pricing on version 8 at a college bookstore (you need to bribe a student)
You CAN trial ver 8 from macromedia for 30 days.
