Microwave Christmas Pudding

With care! Christmas puddings can easily burn, overheat and burst into flames due to the high sugar content. Best not to use maximum power if you have 600w plus. If you have a microwave that has a thermometer that can be inserted into the item to be cooked then use this and set to 100 deg C. If not, then do not leave the pudding unwatched, heat it for about 2 min at a time and check how hot it is at the end of each period. How many times you have to do this is dependent upon the size of the pudding and how cold it is at the start. Take care and enjoy,

If you buy a Christmas pudding in the supermarket the instructions usually give you the option of steaming it, which takes forever, or heating it in the microwave, which takes no time at all.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating but when I cooked mine in the micro wave it COULDN'T be eaten! It looked gorgeous when I took it out and half an hour later it resembled the Grand Canyon - dry with cracks like the San Andreas Fault running thro it. Steaming all the way for me. At least you can eat it a day later.

Yes, takes about 15 min. depending on power of the microwave. If it's a bought pudding, the times should be on the packet. I used to bung mine into a slow cooker to free up the hob for all those vegetables.

Yes. you can. If this pudding needs to reheat then put it in the microwave. Do not put it too long.

I do not think it is advisable for you to bake a pudding in a microwave.

You certainly can, and obviously far quicker and less messy than steaming. Just make sure the pudding is not in tin foil, or on a metal tray.......delicious...I can't wait!

Yes, but steaming is better.

You could always steam it for the actual cooking, and then mike it to re-heat when it comes to dishing it up on the day.

How about a pressure cooker to cook it, that would be a big saving on time.

To reheat You can but you have to be really careful it doesn't catch fire as it has such a high fat content, just do a portion at a time and try 20 seconds at 850W with another 10 if you want it hotter
