I'm thinking of getting a dog and totally fell in love with some silky terriers that a breeder I know just got. What kind of pet are they? Are they yappy? Do they tear up everything? Are they quiet and docile or totally cranky and a pain in the butt?

I love silky terriers too. But if you're concerned about feisty, rambunctious, independent dogs - you'll want to do some research on terriers as a whole. Terriers have the general reputation to be all of those things, and if you don't love that they can be talkative, driven, and energetic, they may not be the dog for you. It's a great thing that you're asking about this *before* making a decision!!!

all terriers are very energetic, yappy and somewhat agressive dogs. if you have other dogs they will become the alfa. also if you have small animals on the house a terrier will try to kill them because they are somewhat a hunting breed. they are good dogs for families with kids and with proper training make excelent pets.
