Now Brahmins are poorest in india.
Even they are demanding reservation.
In old time, Kshatriya were looting people, Vaishya were doing business and Shudra were servant of all other castes.
Everyone was busy in their work but ony Faaltu Brahmins were intelligent enough. So for their earnings, they started scaring others by god/devil and environmental changes.
So they were the people who told themself Best !
But now situation has been adversed or reversed for brahmins.
Nowadays due to education, everyone is intelligent enough so all are not cheated by brahmins.
I have seen many mbrahmins who were standing for the post of Jamaadaar.
It ius really bad time for brahmins.
I am also a brahmin. We should start thinking about this issue.

The caste system, was simply a way to organise society, which has its roots thousands of years ago. It wasn't just the ancient hindu society that practiced it, even the ancient Greek society and ancient Japanese society practiced it as well.
The problem is that any attempt to arrange society based on a hierarchy concomitantly brings with it inferiority and superiority underpinnings. Brahmins were never supposed to be "better" than anyone. It was simply a way to arrange society. Because they were priests and holy men, they were considered to be at the apex of Indian society. Whereas labourers were considered to be 4th (there are 4 castes). Over time the Brahmins started to think that they were some how biologically superior even to kings!
I am a Hindu brahmin (although i am half german), but I am of the persuasion that our identity should be shaped by our common religion (Hinduism), and not out caste, creed or language. A Punjabi "sheduled caste" should be able to look at a Tamil Brahmin and say to him "you are my Hindu brother" and vice versa.
It was precisely because hinduism has been plagued with such internal disunity that these ugly muslims have been able to conquer our lands.

All the human beings are equal... It is a self-proclaimed status allotted by Brahmans to themselves... Brahmans do not represent Hinduism… they are only a part of a huge Hindu society…
However during my visits to US I have seen that there, also certain emigrants are practically treated as inferior...
Anywhere in the world, you will find that the dominating races dictate terms to others and force the underprivileged people to serve them. There was slavery in US before Abraham Lincoln. The apartheid of South Africa has been condemned all over the world all the time.
Vested interests should not try to malign Hinduism for cast system, as the same social management of inequality is prevalent all over the world in some or the other form:
“Privileged classes exploit the underprivileged…” and that's what Brahmins did...

The entire caste system is the down fall of hindu countries. It separates the people, makes people not care for those who aren't as important as they are and creates egomaniacs.
The Calvinist Christian Sects do the same thing as they believe in predestination and that God loves or hates a people before they are born. i.e. While twins were still in the Womb, God decided he Love Jacob but Hated Esau and this is the scripture Calvinist Christians cling to to prove that a person can not choose God and that God does not offer free will to people.
This attitude destroys the people who believe like this...either through over inflated ego or from a defeatist attitude of helplessness. Hindus and Calvinist Christians alike need to get over it or suffer as an organization.
Actually, I didn't answer your question yet...Brahmins think they are superior because they were born to the "right" parents and they know how to pray all the "right" prayers in the "right" way...unlike the rest of the people. Thats what they think anyway. I feel sorry for them being born into the Egomaniac Caste. They pretend to be humble but are very holier than thou and the way to make one mad is to not treat him/her with the respect they have grown accustomed to receiving.

First caste by birth is a social evil and is not a part of hinduism
as per Manu-smiriti those persons who are away from the claws of luxuries and bodily comforts and who are busy in finding the Truth, by meditation and worshipping the god..will be called Brahmins
So anyone on the path of liberation is a Brahmin and he must be respected and thought superior to others who are busy in worldly affairs
As hinduism is very old, people slowly forgot the actual idea behind caste system and connected it with birth...and it became a social evil

In indian culture, one who has knowledge is considered to be the supreme most... the brahmins (traditionally) are supposed to seek knowledge and truth and pass on the education to others. they are the ones who will have the knowledge, so they are considered to be superior than others who will have power, and money and then ability to do labour...

The ONLY reason is that they are the ones in charge. They have beaten down the other castes so that those poor people come to believe that they are inferior.
Kind of like an abused spouse who believes that the beatings and abuse are their own fault.
