- In 1914 there was a major outbreak of the avion flu. It killed about 1/3 of the worlds population.
- The 2 world wars had major effects.
- Anywhere that still uses indoor fires has a very low life expectancy due to infectious lung deseases, still the major cause of death in sub sierra africa.
- AIDs has only been diagnosed since the 1980's but has killed 25 million people and is posed to become one of the leading causes of death world wide.
- infant mortallity rate has virtually dropped to zero compared to the 19th century and before, amonst industrial countries.
- Also modern medicine has made child birth much safer for the mother.
- In america there is also a discrepancy between the races, I remember hearing statistics that AIDs is the number one cause of death for black women aged 18 to 35 although I could be wrong on the age. And guns are the leading cause of death for black males in a younger category agian I forget the exact age but both these stats are in my mind from several years ago. I'm not sure if the situation has improved.
I would develope two graphs one for industrialized countries and another for non industrialized.
The categories could be major deaseses. Accidents. War. etc. any you find as major.
You could also provide different graphs for ages.

Hope this gets you started in the right direction. Microsoft excel has great graph features and tutorials to learn how to use them if you'd like.
