Riddle.....?

Question

you are in the basemet of an old house. there is a 3 position light switch on the wall. the switch is linked to a light on the 2nd floor (you cannot see the light from the basement). How do you find out which position turns the light on if you can only go upstairs once?

turn the first switch on and leave it on for a while without going upstairs. Then turn it off and turn the second switch off. Now go upstairs and look at the light. If it is off but warm, it is the first swich. If it is on, it is the second switch. If it is off and cold it is the third.

You have to turn one light on for a while so that it'll warm up, turn it off and then turn another light on. then you can go into the room and feel the two unlit bulbs - whichever one is warm is the first one. The lit bulb is the second and the cold bulb is the third

You already know it's off in the x position so try the y position and check the light. If it's still off the z position works.
