and asks where it came from? What is a witty, yet not too rude way to respond that will let them know that they are out of line to ask ??

1) Sorry, I'm not comfortable talking about it...
2) You should have seen the other guy!
3) Redirect: What!!! You don't have any scars? (answer: no) Well... my life must be SO much more interesting than yours! (smile and walk away)
4) Oh that? (point at scar) That just an old underwater basket weaving accident... you can't handle the details.
5) Oh that? (point at scar) That was from my time in the IRA [or whatever works for your area].

All must be accompanied by a large smile....

i take no offense to those who point out the numerous scars on my body, as i am not self concious or even vain about them. i smile and with pride explain in detail about each and every scar and how i received them, and after they have fallen asleep, i wake them up to tell them the rest, then when they fall asleep again, i wake them again and let them know how rude they are to ask a question and then to keep falling asleep on me while i am answering them, and make them feel appologetic and embaresed for their in attentiveness. but remember that i live in the usa and it is their right to ask, and is my choice to respond or not .

You are probably self concious about your scar. I would tell them, in a polite way, you would wrather not talk about it. That in itself would make people feel like an asss for even asking. I can't think of anything witty... being witty may come off as being a biitch. Good luck.

I just brush them off with something like, "That? That's ancient history." If they persist, you can be more direct. However, most people with any grace at all will accept that answer and the implied hint that you don't want to talk about it.

be like "oh this one? I got it from the last person who asked me about my scar. Yeah, you should have seen the other guy!!"

"I got this one when I was shanked in prison. I really miss that place." or "That's from the alien probe from when I was abducted in '93." or "I am not sure about that one - it must have happened when one of my alternate personalities was in control."
