What kind of mental problem could possibly prevent you from asking for forgiveness? If you mean severe, like mental retardation, and that person hurt someone else, and can't ask forgiveness, God will forgive. God only really cares about the heart, and knows that "person" much better and cares more, than you or I or any doctor. I am curious though, what mental problem. If the problem is pride, in admitting they are wrong, that is another story.

What is the 'mental problem?' I mean, if you're mute and are repenting in your mind, then of course God will forgive you if you actually mean it. Actually anyone can ask for forgiveness. But like those babies who are born then like immediately die, they didn't have a chance really to be saved. Only God knows.

If you aren't capable of asking forgiveness, you aren't capable of sin.
Someone with downs syndrome actually has a gift, because they go straight to heaven as they are incapable of sin.

You do not offend God for something that you have no control. So, there is nothing to forgive... right?
