heck yes go for it!!! thats how my hair is and it always gets dark in the winter. (my avatar has no resemblance to what i actually look like) people keep saying i have brown hair but its blonde. so i got highlights on my birthday last year which was about this time of year. and then people were like "you're a fake blonde" but then when summer came my hair got lighter from being in the sun and people kept asking me "did you get highlights again?" so if i were you i would go for it. and when the roots grow it doesn't look too un natural so thats good too. i got mine done at a salon, so if your mom does it for you it might be a little extreme. one of my friends who had dark brown hair (but claimed she was a blonde) she wanted it to be lighter brown but her mom did it for her and it ended up being lighter than my highlights. so if you're just doing highlights it'll probobly be ok.
good luck!!!

If you want them and trust your mom to do it, go for it. Just realize that you'll need to maintain your highlights with touchups probably every 6 weeks or so. No need to wait until summer. Winter highlights will give your hair a little lift and maybe your spirits too.

i ahve the same exact problem!!
ppl say im blond but its like im SO close to being brunette.
try john friedas sheer blonde line.
it makes your hair brighter.
highlights will looks like ugly streaks.ew.
but the line will make your hair shinier and brighter.
so it will look lighter.

also during the summertime, put 1/2 cup, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 2 tablesppoons lemon and put in in wet hair focusing on part you want highlights. then sit out in the sun and it truely works and looks natural!

Welcome to my world! Seriously, just the roots will change colors and that is all you really need to highlight. IF you try to highlight all of it, you will call attention to the change in color even more. Hair stays the color it was sunbleached (at least in my experience). Does your mom have blonde hair? If so, then she all ready knows this.

I think you should do them, as long as the highlights are no more than a couple of steps lighter than your hair is right now.
