you need to let kitty know you are his momms, not a chew toy. he is teething until he is 5-6 months old--he will bite. malke kittens need to learn how to bite softly, and you are it for teaching him this. be consistent--i use a small piece of rope tied in a knot--substitute it for your hand when the chewing gets tough and tell him to be gentle. he will eventually mellow out--do not let him be the boss- it is still your house, even itf it is his, in his mind--be his mommy and teach him well. kitties learn with repetition and patience. keep on him, and remember, it IS his natural drives you are trying to change.give him alternatives. he is like a kid with severe ADD.

Okay - First, I wanna say that I feel that there is no kitten that CAN NOT be broken of such bad habbits. You have to think about where it has been and what were the circumstances in which he was raised. Then, I would start doing some techniques(that i have done personally) to show the kitten what is acceptable and what is not. Always remember that he is trying to just dominate the situation ALL 6 pounds of him. Which is quite funny considering that you are the ultimate master and weigh a lot more than he does. If you keep this in mind than it will be just a matter of wills. 1 - Get a spray bottle (that streams water a long distance) and shoot the little bugger right in the face each and every time he does a bad behavior. You will have to be consistent and say "NO" in a demanding tone as he gets a spray in the face. Only allow this to happen AS he is doing the bad behavior, they hate the water in the face and will coorilate it to the bad behavior. At some time: I would also, protect yourself with thick clothing, gloves, and whatever you can to cover your bare skin - and then hold the kitten upside down - with his belly up - and calm him slowly reassuring him it is ok. This position is a very dominating one for a kitten - and will allow you to show him who is boss. In addition to these things: Leave your scent with the kitten as much as possible - even in his cage (which i would have if you dont already). Whether it is your clothing, bedding, even a washcloth that you have used and this will allow him to get used to your scent and make it a comfort smell for him. A lot of this is patience and care - letting him know he is safe and loved all while dominating him and letting him know that YOU rule the house, not him. I havent met one that I could not "break" of these bad things - and they are now a very loving part of my home. I hope this helps - Good luck.

How old is the kitten? Has he been neutered yet? Is he getting enough attention? Is he doing the biting while he's being played with?

Kittens are high energy and love to play. When they play with their littermates, they tend to rough-and-tumble, bite and scratch each other. The kitten may see his new human family as more littermates. Kittens require a lot of attention, especially if it came from a litter of a few or more kittens - it would be used to having a constant playmate. Kitties sometimes will bite or scratch to get attention.

Neutering calms many male cats down, and also prevents backyard breeding, which contributes to the overpopulation of animals like cats and dogs.

This is apt to sound strange, but my kitten was, and still is to some extent, like that. At first, when he was about 9 or 10 weeks old, he would do that and I thought he was vicious. My forearms are scarred all over, believe me. But I learned that he does this when he wants to PLAY! Really! He will do this when I get home from work and later on before bedtime, or just when he wants attention. I recall when he was still with his litter-mates they played all the time, and since he was the firstborn, he played rough. Now I find if I initiate the playtime, he becomes more docile and loving instead of the hellcat he could be. But when I was still trying to puzzle out his reason for being aggressive, the old spray bottle of water reminded him -at least for a time- who the boss is.
Now we play and he gets tired and crashes with a loud satisfied purrrrrrrrrr.

Good Luck!

Your kitten is bored. We had one that was a biter. When we got a second cat, the problem was solved, mostly.

Our boy cat will push our girl cat around but if she cries, he runs to see if he can help her.

Also have a spray bottle filled with water around for when the kitten does something you don't like.

If the animal is already 6 pounds, then he is not a kitten. Where did you get him? Maybe you can try to train him, every time he bites you hard, use a squirt bottle of water on him. It sounds like he is just trying to play, and is just too rough. Also don't play too roughly with him, the more force you use on him, the more he will use on you. You also might have to just deal with him until he is more socialized to humans. Good luck.

Sounds like someone not maybe you or your family has been a little rough on this little kitty. Or possibly it was more of a wild kitten living on the street and someone adopted it? those kind don't always tame down to easily. you may have to start over and always try out your pet young or old before agreeing to take it.

Once when one of my older cats did that, I had to swat his backside to get his attention. I never had trouble with him biting after that, though.

How old is the kitten? You may need to neuter him. If all else fails, you may need another cat: Some felines are naturally just a bit meaner than others.

Good luck.

My cat used to do this when he was a baby play ball with it or with yarn or strings he might get more hyper but he'll calm down and when he bites show no pain he'll eventually stop or give it chew toys pet his fur where it likes or give it a plastic spoon to teeth on at this age they are usually growing big teeth and is very painful so it has to teeth on something and if it picks you give it something else. neuter him or spay her. shell calm down, shes a doll underneath and loves you with all its heart. good luck
