I've just moved to a college campus residence this last August and this has been my first time away from home. Since Ive been here, Ive been sick many times. I've had the flu, pnemonia, the stomach flu, bronchitis and a URI all within 3 months. Ive never been this sick with so many things at once. Is this because I moved here or could it be something else? Or is there something else I could be doing to keep from getting sick? Im really tired of being sick. lol If anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it.

my daughter ended up with mono and lots of the freshmen did too. Take B-12, vitamin C, garlic odorless form, drink lots of water, and get lots of rest/sleep, eat plenty of complex carbs ( potatoes, rice) and no partying.......it's plenty important to keep your immune system strong...........drink green tea too early in the day instead of coffee and lay off soda.

Yes, and winter time is the worst time. I had the same experience when I left home for a college dorm in Jan. I was sooo sick. The reason for winter time illness that most people (especially the old school) atrribute is coldness. That is a myth. The real reason is that in the winter time more people are inside together giving bugs a greater chance to multiply and live happily in what ever body system it prefers. Try to wash your hands ALOT! Maybe vitimins if needed to build up your immune system. Also, you mentioned that this is your first time amonst a large group of people. It is possible that your immune system is encountering bugs it has never met. Hope you feel better!

Yes you actually do get sicker.
Most Colleges advise you to get the Menningitis Vaccine because it is very common in College Dorms.
It is also common to get Mono.
I guess because there are young people living in close quarters, probably sharing everything from books, to drinks; and to, a lot of them are going out with each other kissing, and whatnot.
All these factors, includng crowded living conditions, makes for a breeding grounds for all types of infections.

Yes! Being around all those people, not to mention that the duct work is awful and can aggrivate allergies/sinuses. If possible, move off campus. If it's not, talk to your doctor about what to do to prevent getting sick.

The more people you are around the greater the chance of catching whatever they may have. Try taking vitamin C and be sure to eat a good diet.

i live in dorms too and because you live in such close quarters and i doubt they have very good circulation, you can get sick more easily because all it takes is one sick girl and the whole dorms get sick. ugh
i recommend getting a flu shot and try taking cold md
