And Patrolling Our Border???
And Building That FENCE???

For WellTraveled

You Are Nutz, Dude

A serious commitment to border security
would require fencing off the entire southern border—
all 1,891 miles of it.
(For comparison,
we have 40,000 miles
of Maintained US Interstate Highways.)

At $1.7 million per mile
(the cost of the first 10 mile stretch
in San Diego),
the entire U.S.-Mexican border
all 1,891 miles of it.
could be sealed off for $3.3 billion dollars.

Iraq spending equivalent: 13.8 days.

Cost/benefit analysis, anyone?

I believe we should all take a stand and let it be known that we are not going to stand for immigrants coming to our country and taking away our freedom.

Slowly but surely the life I had known and grown with is changing. I feel less free to speak, joke, less protected, more discriminated and uncertain of my future.

This IS MY country! I am a contributiing, tax paying, law abiding, generous, family values and hard working American and therefore I have EARNED the right to live my life confidently, freely, nonpredudist, and unoffensively.

I earned the right to celebrate my countries traditional holidays and events. And I take deep offense to the continuous changes to our countries traditions to satisfy the likes of immigrants who choose to come to this country.

I welcome you with open arms, but you had dammed well better earn your right to be here and either learn to live our traditions or accept them without protest. You have the right to move on if you don't like our ways. That's the beauty of freedom.

The government will not do it because the government does not want to do it. They do not even talk about it outside of the practical aspect of political campaigns, and then it is only to get votes from those who do care about it.

The two groups benefiting the most from illegal immigration are the Mexican government (the money immigrants send to their families represents the third largest source of income for the country) and American business (many of which actually send representatives into Mexico to recruit and [illegally] transport Mexicans into America to fill specific jobs).

In the 1990s, Tom DeLay led a charge to repeal America’s child work-protection laws because Republicans want to establish an impoverished working class modeled on the Saipan system where mostly young girls work under slave-like conditions producing clothes with the ‘Made in the USA’ label. In yet another example of outrageous hypocrisy, the right-to-life, or in this case forced-abortion-conservative Republicans make girls who become pregnant to either have an abortion or lose their jobs. Losing their job usually means they end up the sex business (the only other employment opportunity that exists – and no doubt one reason Saipan was a favorite vacation spot for DeLay and his republican and lobbyist pals).

The wall will never be built (the fact that it is a stupid idea that will not accomplish anything is irrelevant) and nothing will be done with the 20,000,000 or so illegals already in the country. Look at it this way. We could not get 100,000 people out of New Orleans when we knew where they were and they wanted someone to get them out. There is no possibility of rounding up 20,000,000 spread across the nation. Or, look at it this way. Iraq has only about 25,000,000 people (the size of Texas) in an area roughly the size of California, and we cannot control that situation at all.

You will not hear much about this issue until the 2008 political campaigns get started. You will not hear anything, again, after the elections. Nothing is going to be done, so get used to it.

The San Diego stretch is probably the easiest and least expensive segment to build. Regardless, you still have at least 1,000,000 / mile in operating and maintenance costs. And, there is the northern border as well. The ‘virtual towers’ testing phase construction beginning the spring includes the NW coast and upper NE regions as well as the southern border.

As a young American, I'm sick and tired of these middle-aged, and senior citizen politicians ruining this country. Illegal immigration has been going on since the early 1990's from Mexico. Why is it a big deal now? Because when Fox News, CNN, and the media in general feels it's time to make something a big deal, they run huge month long stories about it. The media and our government should have jumped on this story when it was happening in the early 90's. I refuse to be a puppet of this corrupt country any longer. I work my @ss off so those rich b@stards in Washington, DC can live the high life! Take away illegal immigrants, poor Americans, and middle-class Americans, and this country would crash in about a year or so!

Nobody is building "that fence" -- there hasn't even been any funding allotted to build it, and the cost estimate just went over $30 BILLION dollars. It'll never happen -- and that's a good thing...do you really want to be the next East Germany?

There is no "invasion" -- people have been crossing our borders without legal paperwork for over 200 years, why are you so upset about it all of a sudden? Because they're brown-skinned people who don't speak English as their first language?

Let's be hypothetical for a second: what would happen if somehow, magically, all of the illegal immigrants could be deported all at once, and the flow of new ones stopped completely? Millions of pounds of food would rot in the fields. Food prices would go up in the stores by 1000's of times. Millions of jobs now being done by illegals would go unfilled (there are not enough unemployed citizens in the US to fill every one of these jobs, even if we could get all of those unemployed citizens to take these low-paying jobs which pay less than unemployment checks from the government). The economy would fall to pieces.

Rather than working towards a viable economic and social answer to illegal immigration, you nutcases spew your hate and want to start shooting people who only want to work and make a better life for themselves. You want to run up the federal deficit even more ($30 billion at least) to build a wall which will NOT stop illegal immigration. You don't apply logic or thinking to any of these problems, you just want to get your guns and kill all those brown furriners. Is it any wonder people think you're racist on this issue?
You offer no real solutions, just hatred, anger, and violence. Useless emotions that won't solve anything.

What they will do,is vote themselves a raise when the poor and middle class struggle.Give themselves Immunity from any prosecution and law suits. They give themselves their own Private Social Security,in which pays them what they retire at for life.Starting pay a mere $89,000.00 a year.I'm sure we all make at least that much and everyone we know makes at least that much too.

To the border, dig a ditch, easier to build with forced illegal immigrants caught here.Looks better then a wall.It harder to cross and easier to maintain, anything caught in it gets flushed to the sea. While on the subject of flushing, its well over due, flushing the crap out of the government. The stench is gaging all Americans or the ones with any kind of common sense.

Definately are!! Need to make an open season on any that cross the border illegally and pay per head for any that you get. Bet it would stop real fast if they did. Wouldn't need a fence then.

Well, the American citizens have to volunteer for the border security because the American government is ignorant of the illegal immigration.
