Where does involutary indoctrination in infancy and childhood fit into a free nation? How does this affect us and the children who are taught to think "one way" before they can gather exposure to the many diverse choices in the world?

It doesn't. Indoctrinating children with religion should be a crime. They should have to wait until the child turns 18, like the military recruiters.

Someone below 18 does not have the reasoning or experience to make a religious choice. Any religion taught to them by their parents would be believed; after all, how could their loving parents, the ones who created them and cared for them, be wrong?

These beliefs are hard to shake once they have taken hold (see: Creationists), and are starting to cause problems for our society (see: Abortion, Gay Marriage). Our nation (America) wasn't founded on Christianity but on freedom from religion, and I think we need to protect that right for children everywhere.

Movies like Jesus Camp expose the dangers in religious indoctrination.

Religion isn't taught involuntarily. It can be learned involuntarily, but the teaching of is deliberate.

Legally, children don't get to make their own choices. If a parent wants to isolate them in a religious community and teach them their religion exclusively from birth while censoring all outside data, they can. Of course, it makes outside life extremely difficult to adjust to for the children if they ever leave this community.

I am going to approach my kids school about introducing classes on self responsibility
i dont feel children are taught correctly , when there are religious classes and yet none on how to be responsible for your actions to others in life
however my kids school does teach about many religions , not just one , so i have no probs with that in our local schools
if they just taught one religion , then yes i would be angry
i raise my children to think for themself and adopt a religion only if they choose to and one that sits well with their own beliefs

That is an excellent question .Unfortunately most parents dont expose their children to different religions or spirituality. They expose them only to what they believe in ,giving them little choices to make up there own mind

Because as an adult you can choose whether to follow that line of belief or go a different way. Most people are just too lazy to think for themselves though...

It's really not that difficult to figure out.

At some point the child will be old enough to read and understand hopefull what is taking place in the bible. At that point it is up to them to question what is written and decide if they choose to believe it or if they think it is utter nonsense and simply walk away disillusioned. If they are not allowed to read or question I would guess you are in one of those places where religion is a cultural thing where deviation is not allowed. It is unfortunate but it happens.

It doesn't. Parents cripple their children early on with their baggage.
