You can't get a yeast infection from rough underwear. It would have to be contaminated or something.
If she takes bubble baths, though, that could be causing it. My sister got them ALL the time til our doctor told her not to take any more baths. She had to always shower.
It could also be that she's not changing her underwear often enough. I'm sure her mom changes it every day but if she has small "accidents" during the day or doesn't wipe properly bacteria could be growing in them and that might cause it. You don't say how old she is but that might be a possibility.

You should have the child checked for a few disorders, including diabestes, that predispose kids to getting yeast infections. Also, if she has a cold or is on antibiotics for some reason...this could be the cause.
Its not normal for kids to get them....but it is common.
As far as the panties go.... a pair of clean panties should not cause a yeast infection. But, if she wets herself when she sleeps the excess moisture is a good enviromnet for yeast species to flourish.
So...recap.
Check if she bed wets?
have the doctor check her for diabetes.
U may also wanna consider abuse...if ya know what I mean.
good luck
Have your sister bring her kid to the MD. If she dismisses you when you suggest this, then I would confront her and ask her why?
This is Yahoo answers and NOT the doctors office, so definately go seek the advice of a professional...on the record.

Has this child been on antibiotics recently ? The yeast infection is a side effect of antibiotics. there is good advice about hygene, and clothes at nightime, nightgown is even better. Check with Md about Rx for this child, for yeast infection. Yogurt is good to give while taking antibiotics. speedy recovery, best wishes.

The child probably isn't being dried completely after her bath or after peeing. Moisture is a Major cause of yeast infections in females. Sleeping in loose pajamas, without panties, may help. What ever she wears, it should be cotton. Cotton wicks moisture away from the body.

Proper hygiene is the key to avoiding yeast infection but tight underwear, wet clothes and the consumption of antibiotics may also be the culprit.

Does she take bubble baths? This is the #1 cause of yeast infections in young girls. She might be sensitive to the soap. Whe I take a bubble bath I use the scented anti-bacterial body washes, like Dial. It is much better.

if the panties arent dryed in the dryer, if they are too tight, if they are wet... if she isnt wiping from the front to the back... these things will cause problems. Its best to wear nontight underwear or go nude... but since its a child, nontight underwear. I just recently learned this about the panties from research.

Not the texture of the panties. The soiling (wetness) does it. Anyway, the thing to do is to change the nappy more often and apply a layer of nappy cream (eg. silicone barrier cream) after washing the bottom with warm water.
