I wanted body, not curl. I probably didn't communicate my wishes well enough. Now I have a mop! If I wash my hair today within 24 hours of the perm, will I wash most of it out? I think I'd rather go back to straight then have this... My hair is uncolored, naturally very straight and fine, brunette, about 8" long. Help!

Breathe... Perms tend to be at their curliest when you first get them. Washing your hair today won't wash out the perm...especially not all of it. Go to Walmart and buy yourself some heavy conditioner. That will help way it down until the curls loosen. Also if you want your hair back to the way it was before, you can do a reverse perm where you use perm solution and comb your hair straight.

You can definitely wash it but that will not likely wash it all out. Blow it as dry and as straight as possible (using a round brush). This will also help loosen the curls. My husband's ex insists on giving my step daughter a similar perm every so often so when she's here, that's how I do her hair. It ends up working well because the hair ends up smooth and straight from the blow dryer but still has lots of body from the perm.

unfortunately once you have a perm put in it is PERManent. there are three options. 1 put up with it until it grows out. 2 straighten it every time after you wash and blow dry. 3 go back to the hairdressers to get it chemically straightened. whether this will be possible will depend on if your hair can take any more chemical treatment without damaging it further and if you can spare the money to have it done. you should really have made a complaint before you left the hair dressers as if there was a communication problem it could have been dealt with there and then.

No, you cannot completely wash out a perm, I got one 3 weeks ago and It sucked so I washed it 18 hours after and it still really curly underneath and the top layer is less curly but its not straight. So to the people who think you can, you cant, I know from experience.
It will loosen with in a few weeks, but probably not as much as you'd like.
