You may just have haemorrhoids which are like varicose veins inside the anus. These can bleed. If you were opening your bowels a few times a day then that would be cause for worry. You are probably causing your troubles by straining when you go to the toilet. Anyone looking up symptoms either in a book or on the internet can read their own symptoms into anything. It takes an expert to know when something is seriously wrong. You say you are worried? Sorry, but if you were so worried you would make sure you ate a balanced diet. Just stop being stupid and wait for your results which I am sure will be fine.

Hello, Sorry to hear you are having trouble. Firstly, is the blood in the stools, bright red or dark red? If it is bright red it is normally caused by an anul fisure, caused by being constipated. I have IBS too, and the mucus and occasional blood is normal with this, so is cramping, which with me get worse when i have my period. As the Dr has said you have IBS, do you have any other symptoms, extrta wind, made worse by eating different food like Indian food, gassy drinks? Also normally with IBS you have the "runs " one day and then can be constipated, often in same day too. Mainly women suffer from IBS but men can suffer too.
If I were you I would get a second opinion from another DR, As we know not all Dr's are OK.
Good luck, If you search the web there are some excellent sites for IBS and how to live with it, as there is no cure for it.
Best wishes, and Merry Christmas (but don't eat too many sprouts or turkey, makes IBS worse, but at least if you have lots of wind all afternoon, you can say "Sorry, not my fault it's my IBS!!")

You have done the right thing in going to your Doctor. There are a number of possible reasons for the symptoms ( including irritable bowel syndrome IBS, or Crohns disease), but the doctor should be able to sort out the problem. They maybe suggest that you have a hospital appointment for a bowel X ray and or a lower bowel endoscopy ( where the doctor has a look inside using a fibre optic system ). Its a little uncomfortable but not too bad but this is most likely to identify the problem so it can be treated promptly.
Best of luck .

They're starting to say that anyone who has IBS, or IBS-type symptoms should be tested for celiac disease.
This is the page about celiac disease by the National Institutes of Health.
http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases...
If that starts sounding like something that might be going on, here are a couple of message boards for people with celiac, and other forms of gluten intolerance.
www.glutenfreeforum.com
www.celiacforums.com
Mucus in the stool is a common symptom. Lack of appetite or variable appetite is also common.
It's important to see your doctor because there are a lot of things much more serious than celiac that it could be. You'll want to make sure that there's nothing serious going on.
Whatever it ends up being, I hope you feel better soon.

Regardless of what the stool result shows you should insist to get referred to a specialist. It sounds like an inflammatory bowel disease to me. It may be less serious however but you shouldn't have those symptoms-not normal. You need a colonoscopy and biopsies done to diagnose yourself properly. Good luck.

Hello i dont want to scare you but i would suggest you go to your doctors. My mum kept suffering the same things as you for a year and apart from her doctor putting her on antibiotics and other crap she did nothing about it. Till July this year. Shes got bowel cancer and is noe recieving chemo treatment for it.
It COULD be something else for you but id definatly push for answers. The longer you leave it the worse it will get and become harder to treat. I always see things as "think of the worst it could be" Get it checked out.
Also you dont have to be scared of chemo these days. There are LOTS of different chemo treatments and not all of them cause you to lose your hair. My mum hasnt.
Good luck and PLEASE push for answers

I wonder if you might have Crohn's disease as well as irritable bowel disease. The blood could be an irritated hemorrhoid or you might have a small fissure that is bleeding every time you have a bowel movement. Good Luck.

You need to get your doctor to refer you to a gastroenterologist asap...the symptoms you are describing are typical for inflammatory bowel disease probably ulcerative colitis...you need referral for a colonoscopy so the diagnosis can be confirmed and appropriate treatment started

Stop getting worried ... relax ... wait until the results come in, then deal with whatever it is then. It may not be as serious as you are imagining ... relax, it will work out for the best.
