Hi I am Hal
Enjoy Turkey , Turks and the best food you will ever have.
You need at least 1 week in Istanbul to fall in love with the
city and people ( you will want to come back in the future
for more ). Then travel by bus to Ankara spend a day or two
for shopping and visiting world civilizations museum. Take a
bus to Nevsehir to visit Capadoccia. Then go down to the Mediterranean, say start in Iskenderun built by Alexander the
Great 333 BC old name Alexandretta. See the first Christian church in ancient Antioc and the mozaic museum that is oldest in the world. Then take bus trips through the coast of Mediterranean
Sea to Alanya, Antalya, Side, Bodrum, Kusadasi, Efes. When you arrive to each city, get a local touristic booklet
so you can decide what to see and do in all these places.
You will fall in love.

Well, I am living in Istanbul for 3 years now and anything in Istanbul is great to see. You can just walk around and run into many interesting and different things wherever you are. We just went on a trip to Ankara, Kayseri, Cappadokia, Konya, and then down to Antalya. All of them were great. We usually vacation in Antalya but it is a bit too generic and touristic for me. It has beautiful beaches, though if you want that. I think basically anywhere in Turkey is great to see. It depends if you want the big city feel with old city charm (Istanbul), beautiful beaches (Antalya/Bodrum), the classic Turkish feel (Mid of the country.. Konya area), or real simple Turkishness (Eastern parts). Anywhere you choose will be wonderful. Have fun!

I will focus on food as I am very hungry and away from my country now:

General:
Try the soups Turkish people are generally spoiled with great food so they may overlook the soups.
Try eating from well known but small and cheap places.
ALWAYS ASK FOR THE PRICE OR A MENU WITH PRICES BEFORE YOU EVEN THINK OF ORDERING SOMETHING.

Turkish bread (from any bakery when it is hot - very hard to find but avoid when it is not)
Simit (when it is hot - easier to find but try to avoid when it is not)
Ayran (it is yoghurt, water and salt and is like smoking you may hate it for first few time but will make you addicted after a while)
Ezo gelin corba - (kind of lentil soup can be spicy ask in advance)
Mercimek corbasi - (lentil soup)
Iskender Kebap (Doner with yoghurt, pita bread and sauce in a plate)
Cacik (more dense ayran with cucumber and garlic added)
Yaprak Sarma (dolma from wine leaves)
Dolma (stuffed eggplants, paprikas and zuccinis)
Zeytinyaglilar (the dishes with olive oil, served cold)
Beyti (Kebab with some durum bread)
Alinazik (Kebab on Aubergine paste)
Kadinbudu kofte
Mucver (like german reibekuchen but from zuccini)
Lufer (the best and most expensive fish you can get in Turkey)
Kuru fasulye - pilav (white beans with white rice)
Bulgur pilavi - brown rice

Deserts (if you enter a desert shop you can see all of these together and choose I list my favourites)

Baklava (very heavy pastry)
Tel kadayif
Kaymakli Ekmek kadayifi
Sut Tatlilari (lighter but delicious deserts from dairy) - sutlac, firin sutlac, kazandibi, tavuk gogsu

I am sorry I must go and eat something, I cannot continue
