I KNOW this is simplistic but arrange things so there is minimal damage and let you cat join in on the Christmas fun. If you can't keep kids out of it; forget the cat.

What I did with my older cat when he was a kitten was I put a tin near the tree with dry rice and beans in it. Then when I caught him near the tree I shook the tin really hard and it scared him away... dont let him see you shaking the tin though! After he hears that awful noise a few times after knocking about the tree, he will associate the loud horrid noise with the tree and avoid it... OR there is still you can get at the pet store that is a cat repellant spray... spray it on the base of the tree and it will probably help... it smells like oranges!
Also, you could put tin foil on the floor (flat sheets of it) around the tree... cats usually HATE the feel of something slippery and cold on their feet...
Unless you have an unusually defiant cat, one of these should work for you! The ideas worked for my first 2 cats, but now I also have an EVIL 7 month old kitten, so I guess we will see!

in case you have a small tree, you may attempt a bungee twine -- that's what I relatively have performed for years now. (want i could practice you the tree yet i do no longer understand how flicker and image bucket artwork!) besides, I relatively have 5 cats -- I bungee twine the tree to the ideal of my entertainment midsection, (i take advantage of the thick black variety with a hook on the two ends. -- and canopy it with a tree skirt. in case you haven't any longer have been given a tree skirt, even a small sheet or table textile might artwork. Bungee twine won't scar the furnishings way tape can, Then I cover the tree with blown glass adorns that I risk-free practices pin to the tree, as a replace of using hooks, and additionally i haven't any adorns dangling loose from the backside branches. That looks to tantalize them. additionally the area on the two fringe of the tree is roofed with non breakable Christmas adorns -- those textile angels. I relatively have had my tree up as a results of fact the week in the past Thanksgiving, and so far they have left it on my own... even my a million/2 grown kitten. FYI -- I additionally do no longer use the two metallic garland or icicles -- the two are deadly to a cat. I have been given a pair of strands of gold beads from pastime foyer and use those. The tree looks super, and so far no mishaps! wish this facilitates...

You can't. THEY'RE CATS. Just keep the tree near a wall, and use fishing line to secure the tree to the ceiling or to a hook on the wall. Put away really expensive breakable ornaments. You can have cats or you can have breakables, that's the choice. Don't put presents under the tree. Have lots of cat toys and places for them to climb in other parts of the house, all times of the year.

Difficult one. Our kitten will be 5 1/2 months when Christmas arrives, and have been warned about this! Luckily(?) ours is a fibre optic which does not require any decorations (would look OTT), so that may help. Perhaps I will try the vapour rub trick, as Muffin actually loves it when I vacuum and follows me or jumps out in front of the brush/sweeper! Neither is she adverse to water. Will be avidly watching all of your replies. Good Luck!

Place the christmas tree underwater. Cats hate water.

What you need to do is put the cat in a different room or you could put a gat around the tree.

I don't think it's possible. I yell at my cats when they knock them off, but one of my cats is so proud he'll come and get me to look at the decorations he knocked off, even though I yell at him for it. I just make sure to hang decorations that won't hurt the cats if they get them.
