Is it correct that if you are forced by someone to take money out of a cash machine and you enter your PIN number in reverse order, that your money is still dispensed but the ATM automatically rings the police?

No, that is just an urban legend. Think about it; what about PIN numbers that are the same forwards and backwards, like 1221?

I cannot quite fathom why 2 people so far have given you a thumbs down for asking a question!

Remarkable.

Anyway, the idea IS a good one and has been mooted before - a "duress code" as it is called works as well as the real one but also triggers some form of alarm.

Not unusual on some of the better quality alarm systems.

Good idea,if police can ge there quick enough. What puzzles me is why we call a PIN number when PIN stands for personal identification number. That would mean we are saying personal identification number number.Same as a DB box in the home.Distribution Box Box.

Can't be - how would it work for people whose PIN numbers are the same in reverse as they are the right way? e.g. 2552 - they'd be forever calling police!

It's a great idea though - you could sell the idea and make your millions!

I doubt it, since someone else could have changed their PIN number to be the reverse of yours.

Good urban myth, but shouting and screaming would probably be more effective.

I very much doubt it!

what if you pin was 1441 for instance! how would the machine know wether it was forward or backward!

It would call the police every time you take money out!

No.

This system was proposed by a businessman a few years ago and a couple of states have proposed laws, but as of right now there is no such system in place anywhere.

Why have you got so many Thumbs Down? It's a great idea & should be seriously considered. Look into it.
