“The various customs with which people today celebrate their birthdays have a long history. Their origins lie in the realm of magic and religion. The customs of offering congratulations, presenting gifts and celebrating—complete with lighted candles—in ancient times were meant to protect the birthday celebrant from the demons and to ensure his security for the coming year. . . . Down to the fourth century Christianity rejected the birthday celebration as a pagan custom.”—Schwäbische Zeitung (magazine supplement Zeit und Welt), April 3/4, 1981, p

Birthdays: The only two birthday celebrations spoken of in the Bible were held by persons who did not worship Jehovah. (Genesis 40:20-22; Mark 6:21, 22, 24-27) The early Christians did not celebrate birthdays. The custom of celebrating birthdays comes from ancient false religions. True Christians give gifts and have good times together at other times during the year.

Birthdays honor the creation rather than the Creator. I would say no, it is a very worldly thing and in no way does it honor God. The Bible tells Christians not to enjoy this world to the full, or that will be their reward. It also says
1 John 2:15-17: " Do not be loving either the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him; 16 because everything in the world—the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the showy display of one’s means of life—does not originate with the Father, but originates with the world. 17 Furthermore, the world is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever.
The only two birthdays mentioned in the Bible were of non-Christians...Pharoah in ancient Egypt (who considered himself a god) and King Herod, who had John the Baptizer be-headed during his party...go figure!

no. but unless a "christian" does not care what God thinks and will just incorporate other religious ceremonies i guess a christian has that choice. God never has accepted other religious practices to be mixed up with his way of worship. I thought God deserves to set the rules.

birthdays are the anniversary of a birth. I don't associate a birthday with a religion.

It is an ocasion to have fun and to mark steps of growing up for kids. Middle Eastern legends and fairy tales have nothing to do with it.
