Registered Nurse here; Unfortunately sounds as if you have actually contacted the flu as a result of the shot. This is not the norm, but that doesn't help your situation. The flu last about 10 to 14 days. I'm so sorry you developed the flu after the vaccination. Yes it does happen, the best thing you can to, is rest, pamper yourself, take medications to control the aches, pains and fever. Maintain hydration by drinking plenty of fluids, eating soft foods, chicken noodle soup, rice, applesauce, bananas, and just resting and not pushing yourself. I hope your feeling better soon, the only bright note I can think of at the moment for you is--you truly will have immunity after recovering from the flu and won't have to deal with it any more this season.
Thank You for the opportunity to address your question.

If you have felt bad for five days then you have had the flu for twelve days as it takes a week to incubate. You did not get it from the jab and your doctor and pharmacist are liars. You should start to feel better in two days and it will be completely gone in nine. Three weeks in total.

I worked in a doctor office before and have had a few patients w/ this problem. The flu seemed to have lasted longer w/ the few that got the shot. You'll definitely get better, just baby yourself and drink lots of fluids to flush it out.

The flu vaccine does not work until 2 weeks after getting the shot. You can, under rare circumstances, get flu from the vaccine. The flu vaccine is an inactivated flu virus. Sometimes, it does reactivate, and we are not sure why it happens.

I know quite a few people get flu from a flu jab, so hey, don't be so defensive!!! Just stay in bed & wrap up warm. Don't have one next year - I never have one - however, I've just got a cold, so I feel no better than you do!!!

Hi Phantom

Not a fan of giving yourself drugs, but that is another topic. Lets get you healed and feeling better. Here are some ideas and stop taking ove the counter medicines because that also Surpresses the symptoms which will cause the flu to continue and give you more issues down the road.
Follow #1 #7 and #8 as well as you can for immediate relief. Do not eat becasue the body needs to heal your issue and by eating the body has to work on digesting instead of fixing your health. Lots of lemon and ginger tea (prefer real ginger root) and distilled water. Few more ideas here to use.

Cause
Flu is an advanced cold condition. A body catches flu when it is full of waste matter and toxins through lowered vitality and by body exposure to cold and dampness. This is due to mucus in a weak spot in the body--in this case, the respiratory tract. The contributing factors to this weakness are shallow breathing and a lack of oxygen to that particular area.

Herbal Aids
1.General Instructions: The fastest way in eliminating this body condition is by proper diet and rest, and by flushing the body system with diaphoretics. Take a ginger bath (using up to a pound of ginger to a tub of water), or a mustard-cayenne bath with cold sheeting. The antispasmodic agents relax the constringed cell structure, loosen and discharge the mucoid matter. Fruit juices (especially hot lemon juice) should be taken alternately with the herbal teas. After the cleansing crisis, the body system should be built up with tonic herbs and with nutritious, non-mucus forming foods.

2.Colds, Pneumonia, Flu: See formula using pennyroyal and elder flowers.

3.Peppermint and Elder Flowers: For one of the greatest flu remedies there is, see formula using peppermint and elder flowers.

5.Dr. Christopher's Composition Powder: As Dr. Nowell, our instructor at the Dominion Herbal College, Let. of Vancouver, British Columbia gave in our textbook, quote: "We have made and used composition powder for over forty years. When we state we regularly mixed it in batches of sixty pounds the student will readily see that we have had at least some experience with it. As a remedy in colds, beginning of fevers, flu, hoarseness, sluggish circulation, colic, cramps, etc. We believe it has done more good than any other single preparation ever known to man."

6.Dr. Christopher's Anti-Infection formula:composed of plantain, black walnut, golden seal root, bugle weed, marshmallow root, and lobelia is great for the cleansing of the lymph system as well as purifying the blood and fighting infection.

7.Lemon Juice: The symptoms of flu may be relieved by drinking lemon juice in warm water several times daily.

8.Ginger: Ginger tea is often given in cases of colds and flu. It will produce perspiration and increase circulation, thus helping to speed the removal of toxins from the body. A favorite treatment in colds, flu and bronchitis is the Ginger bath. Simply add three tablespoonfuls of the grated root powder to a tubful of hot water. Let the person soak in the tub, adding hot water occasionally to keep the tubful good and hot. Give sips of diaphoretic teas during this soak (camomile is pleasant and well-accepted by most sick people). Be sure to coat the genitals which will be immersed with Vaseline or any other non-penetrating coating so that the herbs will not irritate them. You can add cayenne, mustard or other rubefacient herbs to this soak. It relaxes the body as well as opening the pores and stimulating elimination. By all means keep the patient warm after this soak. Put him into warm, clean cotton under clothes and bedclothes and put him to bed. Ginger baths are well-accepted even by children.

Best of health to you

The symptoms should subside after a week or so, so I reckon you are nearly there. You are probably doing these things already but drink plently, rest and losts of vitamin C. Hope you are better soon.
