The outer cover is fiberous.

If you chew well you won't notice, but a lot of people shovel food in or swallow after only 2 chews.

The shell of the corn is made from cellulose, which isn't digested very well by humans. When you chew corn, the stuff that's inside the hull gets mushed out, so it's really the outside that isn't digesting.

It has a hard shell that breaks down slowly, but if you chew your food properly it will for the most part be digested.
