1. Exercise and weight loss.
2. Cut back on fats... Eat lean meats.
From my experience, cholesterol has two main factors: weight and genetics. Losing weight helps the body hand things a lot better. For me, I think genetics is probably the main cause for high cholesterol.
If you're already lean, then genetics is a bigger factor.
Taking meds is not bad. 1 pill a night.
If it's a big issue, talk to your Dr. about alternatives you can do before taking meds especially if you're close to 200.

55 points is A LOT in a month. But if you want to start reducing it--eat as little saturated fat as possible, that raises your cholesterol. And eat oatmeal--every day. I'd especially recommend the Quaker Brand Take Heart Oatmeal, it has 4 grams of soluble fiber, which is the kind that helps lower cholesterol. Also, cardio exercise will help raise your good cholesterol and can low your bad, so go run/bike/jog/etc. It may not lower 55 points but it will lower a lot if you do these things, and eventually can lower 55 points or more after a few months.

Okay here is what you can do, I don't promise a 55 point cut, but your cholesterol levels will surely improve.
First thing you need to do is exercise, take a brisk 30 min walk daily.
Drink 2 litres of water.
Eat the following foods that help lower cholesterol.
All fresh fruits especially Apples.
All vegetables Especially Carrots.
Cook in Olive oil or Canola, The other good choice would be Peanut oil.
Have only lean meat, no fat. Better still have just fish like Salmon,Mackeral,Sardines.
Nuts like Walnuts and Almonds.
Flax and Sesame seeds.
Whole meal breads And Oats for breakfast.
Eat raw garlic and Onions daily.
Increase your fibre intake
Don't eat the following-
Eggs, Meat with fat on it, Fried stuff, Any Cookies cakes etc, no butter, fries, No refined breads pasta etc.
Good Luck.

Likelihood is you're eating too fast. Try holding a conversation while sporting a meal so you're certainly not gulping down more than you'll want to feel full.

another thing that can help you is
Pranayama breathing methods. They'll help you increase your metabolism and deal with internal issues like lungs, kidneys, arteries, intestines.
