For every 1 kilogram of raw materials, wherein 300 grams of garlic wastes and 700 grams are corn husks, eight pieces of 5"x8" handmade paper can be produced. The raw materials were properly cooked for two to three hours wherein sodium hydroxide or lye was added in a ratio of eleven grams for every liter of water. The cooked fibers were washed thoroughly until the washings became very clear. The washings were collected because fibers are present on it. Then the washed fibers were mashed and pound until it became so soft that water was added it became a pulp. A ten percent solution of starch and alum was added to prevent too much absorption of water and blotting of the dye. Then a double decker screen was dipped into the pulp, lifted and the water was drained. Lastly the sheet of wet pulp left on the screen was removed pressed, then dried. This will produce a sheet of paper held together by the crisscrossed fibers and the plant gums.
