I'm just looking to better my diet is all, so I'm wondering on some unbiased opinions if ALL meat is bad for you, or only some? Additionally, I'm wondering if humans were only meant to consume what they can consume raw, because that would make alot of sense. If you eat raw beef, you will get sick. So does that mean it's bad for you as we can't digest it properly in its raw form?

I got three kind of answers here:

1. Fatty ingredients added to mear is bad, but regular meat is good.

I agree on the fatty ingredients part.

2. You can only get protein that our body needs from meat.

Hm? I read that when you cook steak, you are essentially "breaking down" the protein, that it really becomes useless once it's cooked.

But, you see, there's a catch 22 on it: If you consume raw or "rare" steak, you run the risk of being infected with parasites, so that's not too appetizing ;).

I guess I came to the conclusion that meat and all that is ok, just try to eat it with healthy ingredients, exercise, and don't eat the same things everyday :)

I plan on staying away from candy, sweets, caffeine, high fructose corn syrup, all that is bad for you, rots your teeth, and may be a major cause of diabetes.

So thank you on all your answers. I think this topic sways from both sides of the field, so maybe there isn't any clear answer as to the "perfect" human diet.

If you take the evolutionists approach to the whole thing, there was a time when man could eat raw meat. Our system of digestion and processing was very different and the diseases that we find today, in meat and other, weren't around.

Eating meat cooked, while in and of itself is not bad, there is question to all the additives (hormones, etc.) used in raising the animal that may be bad for the human body. Buying free range or organic is always worthwhile when buying meat. The leaner it is the better. Chicken is better than beef.

Or, if you are really concerned about it, go veg! I've recently become a vegetarian. Not for the animals sake, but rather for health reasons. It's been an amazing improvement on my health and body. I don't think I'll ever go back to meat!

Really fatty meat has natural chemicals in it (fatty acids) that can imbalance imbalanced blood sugars further, according to the books I have read. You can eat raw beef without getting sick, if it is not infected, laced with antibiotics or otherwise impure, but in this day and age that does not exist.

Why would you get sick if you eat raw beef? Many conniseurs prefer very rare or raw beef. Carpaccio? Steak tartare?

If you go by what we were "meant" to eat, considering our eye teeth are smaller than dogs or saber tooth tigers, then maybe grains, berries and vegetarian are a better natural match.

Meat is healthy. The dangers for cholesterol come with diets high in carbs plus fat. Low carb dieters (original plans, not the new "net" carb ones) show excellent blood work and cholesterol levels. Add carbs and blood sugar spikes, cholesterol goes high.

On the Kimkins.com plan we stress lean protein sources because it's a low calorie low carb diet which is why it produces phenomenal weight loss. Like the girl below.

i think i heard somewhere that our appendix was once used back in the day to allow us to eat raw meat without becoming sick. it may or may not be true.

personally i don't think that consuming meat every once in a while is so bad. i always have lean steak though, for the iron boost and protein.

Fatty meats are not good for you. Steak is better for you than ground beef because with the steak you can alot of the fat off, but with ground beef it is mixed in. Turkey, chicken, lean pork, and fish are better for you.

Actually, I like my prime rib medium rare. I have never gotten sick. If you like meat, don't worry about it. Remember, the cavemen probably got sick and died a lot because there was no local ER to run to. When they discovered fire, it was on!!!!! Dinosaur burgers and all...lol. Actually, certain animals and plants and fish were put here for us to eat. Humans have to eat. Don't worry so much about eating meat. It only hurts you if you think it will.

Whoever said meat is bad for the human body is an idiot. Women need it for the iron and men and women for essential amino acids not present in vegetable.

NO WAY!! the body neeeds meat... it has protein in it. Meat is good for you... they way you cook it ( like if it has a really fatty batter on it) is bad for you. Meat is not bad for you.... even in the old days they didn't eat it raw.. they used sticks to make a fire... and cooked it. Bottom line- eat meat! lol it's good for you =] and wont make you fat.
