At noon and midnight the hour and minute hands are exactly coincident with each other. How many other times between noon and midnight do the hour and minute hands cross?

The correct answer is 10.

Harrypotterfan is almost right except for one thing. At each passing hour, the hour hand is not exactly on the 1 or 2 or 3, etc; it's always a little later each time. So at 11:55 it is actually the same as 12 midnight because the hour hand has advanced so much.

Think of it! How could they be the same at 11:55 and again just five minutes later at midnight??

So the correct answer is 10.

Pl. clarify, do you mean, noon and midnight on the same day?
If that is so then Hour & Min. hands will cross every hour. i.e.10 times. Since you have asked about "other times" I am not considering the starting time 12noon and 12 midnight.
In any case they do not "cross" at these times in the 12 hrs interval... they "overlap" each other at 12 noon & 12 midnight.

To be more precise, we can say, the minute hand crosses the hour hand since minute hand is moving faster and it is on top of hour hand in an analog watch.
eg. while crossing a road, we say, "I am crossing the road" since we are on top of the road... we don't say, "road and I are crossing each other".
