Tetanus vaccine is a toxoid. A toxoid is a toxin which is heated and treated in such a way that it will not cause the disease. It still stimulates the production of antibodies. Tetanus vaccine is a very effective and heat stable vaccine.

Nothing unusual about them at all.
If you haven't had one or remember having one in five years previous to an accident which breaks the skin, or an animal bite, the Doctor or Hospital would give you one!!!
Like all vaccines they are a precautionary measure!

I think you mean different than other vaccines.
Because you have to have one every ten years for the rest of your life.
If you get a rusty nail in you foot, or get bit by a dog or something else, you will need to get a tetnus shot if you haven't had one for over five years.
It is the only shot you have to get for the rest of your life.
