I need some more details as far as the # of people, the occasion, the type of food you would like to serve (eg. dinner, brunch, just appies, etc. ) But I recently put on a buffet dinner party for 25 people that was pretty impressive. People talked about it for days. Everything I prepared was either made the day before or in the morning, so all I had to do at crunch time was put out cold appies, finish a salad, and heat the entrees. I was able to spend time visiting with my guests. I'll give you my menu, but not all the recipes, because there would be too many. Also some of what I served might not be to your, or your guests tastes. Maybe my menu could give you a little inspiration for your own menu, and you have some good recipes already, or you could find some on the internet. Here's what I served ( Went with kind of an Italian, Mediterranean theme )
Appies: A layered hummus, feta spread with pita chips
Veggie tray with roasted red pepper dip.
2 kinds of cheese stuffed mushrooms ( served hot )
Main coarse: Panzanella (Italian bread salad, looks beautiful on a big platter with all the colors of the different veggies )
A vegetarian tomato and pesto lasagne
Greek ribs ( ribs baked with lemon, garlic, oregano, simple and tasty )
Baked Italian chicken breasts (Breaded in Italian breadcrumbs, parmesan, and spices)
Sliced bagette with olive butter
Dessert: lemon cake and chocolate dipped strawberries

So there you go. I didn't serve a lot of dishes, just a few really good ones that complimented each other. My guests were very happy and full ! Hope this gives you some ideas !

I think the Charlie Brown answer sounds impressive, just get the Jelly Belly beans.
There so many little things you can have that are excellent and easy. I just would not know where to begin. I can talk recipes all day long.
Now I do have my "Three Layer Sex Pie" it is impressive, but, I not sure I can explain everything here without my Answer being so long it go into the Diet section.

Voluvaunts are a good start, try making them a little more interesting by making them with curried egg mayo: Boil eggs, allow to cool in fridge, mix with mayo and add a teaspoon or tablespoon (depending on how much you're making) of curry powder.
Egg mayo sandwiches with lettuce
Tuna Mayo Sandwiches with cucumber
Sausage rolls (available from Tesco's Sainsbury's Asda etc)
Bowl Of Chips Best cooked 5 - 10 Min's before Guests arrive
Bowl of Sausages 5 - 10 Min's before Guests arrive
Chicken Legs (best from Iceland)
Chicken Nuggets (again from Iceland)
Mix up a huge bowl of salad, ( Tomato's, uncooked carrot, red Leicester cheese, lettuce, cucumber, apple, Green Pepper, Red Pepper, Yellow Pepper, Cheddar cheese, Spring onions)
Quiche is ok but don't go too mad with it
Breadstick with dips
Also Don't forget to have Sauces for Chicken and Chips and Sausages, Bottle of Tomato, Bottle of HP Brown Mustard (Dijon or English)
Trifle (mixes can be found anywhere)
Jelly, 2 or 3 different ones
Cakes & Gateaux Always go down well ( try Iceland for these £25 or more you'll get a free home delivery on day of your choice so the day before you need them would be best for defrosting needs)
Also don't forget drinks some for adults (you know who likes what, and something for the designated drivers and kids)

This is a favourite that is often used, especially during the Christmas season - different, simple, tasty, and colourful. "Chinese Salad". There are no real measurements - your personal preferences will be a good guide. And, maybe you will experiment and find another nice addition to the ingredients list.

Supplies
Base: bean sprouts (washed)
red and green peppers, strips or chopped
green onions, chopped
water chestnuts (optional), sliced
cashews (roasted)
shrimp (canned or frozen-drained)
sesame seeds (toasted)

Dressing: a sweet-sour light glaze consisting of
soya sauce
salad oil (olive, grapeseed or canola are best)
sugar (small, to taste)
optional: tiny bit of minced ginger - a little bit can be
strong, but is a zesty addition for flavour

It's easy to decorate, and can be the focal point if you wish.

Cheat - buy a pack of McCain Crispy Potato Slices. Top with smoked salmon, a blob of creme fraische and a sprig of dill. Yum!

Or go for mini burgers or beef skewers (made from thinly sliced steak, marinated in honey, soy sauce and sesame oil). Both easy as anything.

Or have a look at www.bbc.co.uk/food for some inspiration

Who are your guests and what do they eat? Is the theme a holdiay party? If you impress them too much with exotic foods, they will leave your holiday buffet hungry. You impress by how you present the food and set the table and the ambiance of the venue. Regional favorites in food are always best, Have colorful centerpieces, candles, unique design for tableware and linen. Include every food group.

Cheese and fruit and vegetable platters with dipping sauce

How about a chocolate fountain or a cheese fondu, make a creamcheese dip in the shape of a wreath to carry out the holiday theme.

To drink: Grenach, burgundy, strong red, even a well aged cabernet sauvignon if you add herby spice foods. On the adverturous side, the apple taste of a dry sauvignon goes with roast pork nicely.

alright, no problem, i'm here to help you in the nick of time. You see, I saw the "Peanuts Thanksgiving Special" when I was younger. You know Peanuts, right...Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus, etc.? Well, they were also in a pinch so they just came up with a simple menu. I recall it was like this: jelly beans, toast, popcorn, hotdogs (not sure about this one), hard-boiled eggs (also not sure), and a few other time-saving foods. Hope I've helped you. Please give me the 10 points when you choose the best answer, ok?

Buy a pack of Blinis, a pack of smoked-salmon trimmings, some sour cream, and a jar of herring roe. Put a piece of salmon on each Blini, then a dollop of sour cream, and half a teaspoon of roe on top. Mmmm. Not as expensive as it sounds either.
