I was a painter for 2 and a half years with my own crew. I also am painting my own home. You want exterior latex. Almost all oil base paints have been removed from the market due to lead content, but the current latex paints are very long lasting and will last 15 to 20 years. You can also buy exterior porch and rail paint. It's what I used for my mudroom floor. It works great and looks rustic.Flat=dry and rustic;Semi-gloss=a little shine and deeper color because of the light that it reflects. You can also buy full gloss exterior paint but it reflects so much light that it shines and always looks wet.I would go with a semi gloss for your trim and doors and a flat for your porch and rail. I hope this helps, good luck!

Myself, I prefer a good oil based semi-gloss. Stands up better than latex for the most part. And for me, if putting it on by brush, add a little bit of "Penetral", a product you can find at most paint outlets. It will allow you to put on a smoother finish[less brushstrokes showing]. And don't be afraid of the clean up of your brush, paint thinner works well.

A good quality semi-gloss latex enamel will be okay.

It depends if it is a metal door or wood door, but I would use latex as it can be easily cleaned of dirty and fingerprints and is easier to apply.
