You will have damaged your lungs from the smoking you did in the past. It takes about 20 years for the damage to be reversed. As long as you don't take up the habit again it won't have done much. Just keep off them from now on. What a waste after 10 years to lapse like that but good on you for quitting like that. The longer you stay off them the better your health will get.

Cigarettes have been shown to be dangerous to many parts of the body. FEMA site shows that 1 cigarette gives you a lot of radiation. If you want to live longer, don't smoke. If you want to be social and move to the top and appear antsy and concerned at the drop of a hat and want to associate with the people who do that have the availability to power privilidge and prestige and social organizations that can help you move up the social ladder, go ahead and do the cigarettes where you can and drugs too for that matter. Depends on what you want. Only 1/4 of smokers will get lung cancer. But there are many other cancers and many other diseases that come from cigarettes. If you are a risk taker, don't care about your family's second hand exposure or are willing to take your smoking away from them and you want to move up, smoke. If you want to absorb the high stress of your job so you don't have to feel it so much, smoke. etc etc...trade offs really. Our society does this to us. I am sorry you have to wrestle with this so much.

Not counting genetic predispositions and other unknowns, your chance of getting cancer increase proportional to the amount you smoke. Three more cigarettes isn't going to make much difference. Three more years of smoking... well that's something else. Your problem is not going to be three cigarettes. Your problem is going to be more along the lines of, "Well, that was only three cigarettes... and they were good. I think I'll have a few more..." As long as you don't start up again, you'll be fine.

Everything in moderation, man! If you can manage to keep it to just a cigerette or three every so often, you really don't have much to worry about. But that's tough for a lot of people, and nigh onto impossible for a former smoker. Don't worry about the single lapse. As long as you don't make a habit of it (har har).

Stop worrying love - to be honest I've known people who smoke 60 a day and still never get lung cancer and others have never smoked a *** but go on to get it. Cancer is a gene we are born with and some develop it as where some dont - its the luck of the draw. Stop beating yourself up about something you cant undo now and well done you for giving them up for so long xxxx

I would say no. Your body will reject the muck from the cigarettes as you WON'T be having more!! Anybody can get lung cancer, but I believe your risk now is the same as if you hadn't had a wee relapse. Just don't get wrecked and do it again!!

Well, go see a doc and get a chest Xray. That way you will know if the black lung had caught up with you.

They are as likely to give me cancer as you.
Question is, do you want more? Now THAT may kill you - eventually.
