I want to bake christmas cookies and hang them on the tree. Is it better for me to wrap them in Saran Wrap or something before hanging? If I don't wrap them, how long will they last? Are they supposed to edible, or stricly for decoration?

I have used both a salt-flour and water recioe, and a regular sugar cookie recipe. Best results are with the salt recipe (needless to say, not meant to be eaten!).
Make sure you punch a hole for hanging before you bake, as they will crumble otherwise.
I used clear brush-on shellac to preserve them year-to-year, but make sure you wrap them carefully for storage.

this website has a good recipe for salt dough. You want to use salt dough for ornaments. They're not edible, but the dough is great and you paint them with egg yolk tinted with food coloring. You can bake them or let them air dry.

I made some with my 2 year old daughter. It was great fun

If you want to make cookies for eating, I wouldn't put them on the tree unless they're sealed in plastic.

Definately wrap them tightly in a plastic wrap and tie them tight with a brightly covered ribbon. You have a lovely ornament that can be enjoyed in several ways.
