When Constantine ruled the Roman Empire, he decided to join the people together under one religion---to make them more united. There were many pagan gods and religions. Tho, he himself, was not a Christian, he decided this was the best religion for a united cause. It was purely a political move.

He did later accept Christianity, some say, on his deathbed.

Romans "accepted" Christianity just like Americans "accepted" daylight savings time. The Emperor said, "This Is It." The next morning Romans woke with serious "Christan" hangovers.

Many went from strange beds, back to their wives, with the shadow of the confessional hanging over them and the prospect of 16 Hail Mary's in their future. Pagan life went on, right down to today. **Except that church and state were no longer separate!** And are still not separate today.

Except for deep pockets of "truth and power" running through the Christian religion; it has been, like all human religions, pretty much watered down and worthless ever since.

Constantine was the Roman Emperor who established Christianity as the State religion thus elevating it from a " cult status " into a prestigious Religion of Power and Authority above the others.

By Constantine, mainly. He established the Catholic Church in the fourth century and made it so Christianity was the official religion of the Roman Empire, outlawing most forms of paganism and all forms of Judaism.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Romans 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
Romans 10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

The same way anybody does. According to Romans 10:8-10 : Salvation that comes from trusting Christ-which is the message we preach-is already within easy reach. In fact, the Scriptures say, "The message is close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart."
For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.
