If you are doing something special for your neighborhood this holiday season, is this something that simply carries over from the rest of the year or is this a once a year thing? If you only do this once a year, why do you not help out all year long?

In my neighborhood, we all work together for each other's families. We mostly live on farms, so there are alot of times we help each other with hay, rounding up cattle, giving each other different things out of our gardens etc. But, every year at Christmas my kids love to bake Christmas cookies and bring them to the neighbors.
During the year, I help rescue animals, I am involved with domestic violence causes, I donate food, I cook meals for needy people, and I help with organizations in my church.

well, while i understand what your saying, we should be giving and thoughtful of others all the time, at the same time Christmas is often a time to concentrate on that,,,, and shareing with others,, helping others, is a great way to honor Jesus,,, and also if we dont/cant do it all the time,,, atleast we pause once a year and think of it......also we give to our neighborhoods by being productive citizens in them,,taking care of our own families, our lives etc, and for many, that does consume alot of their time,,,,,,,

I think you're starting to hit on the basic problem with christians; their hypocrisy.
They praise their magic sky-pixie in church, but go whoring and drinking the day after.
So, they make up celebrations to make them feel better about wasting time in church.
It really is a vicious cycle isn't it?
