I don't know if I totally understand what you are asking. A lot of anti-Americanism is against our government, not the people. However, some people, as tourists, expect foreign countries to be American and get upset when they aren't, and get the "Ugly American" attitude. Even some of the most anti-American people in foreign countries, want to live here though.

America is an exciting country. It is the optimum dream-realization for the average human beings. In many ways America is there, everywhere; let me say, Americans wanted it to be so. Since they have come from different parts of the world settled in a country, the Americans have been on the defensive about their culture and identity. So they made American English(it sounds to me the same English of the British) and agressively pushed ahead their new found culture all over the world through their art and media. I think, though America is a free country, it has less tolerance towards criticism on their identity. You can find the same with the Aussies.
Since this uni-polar world is lead by the US, they feel 'either you are with us or against us'. So if you express your opinion in public through any media, against the US, you will be labelled as 'anti-american'. But they dont understand the fact that, many a times the america-lovers are labelled as anti-american for being straightforward.
At the same time, let me say that, anit-america has different meaning in different contexts. You cannot keep both Bin Laden and Aundhathi Roy in the same lot. Their views and ways are different.

I am not American. I was born in IRAN, and the Iranian government doesn't get along well with the US government. But that's more like politics.

I have seen many countries and have lived in many places. There are some who are against the American people and consider them evil. They are very very few. You can find many of them in the Middle East though. However most Europeans, Asians, and also from many other places like America and Americans. Seriously. And many many of those who dislike America or Americans are jealous, which is understandable, because Americans have big houses, big cars, big aeroplanes, big armies, and big paychecks ;)

These idiot american politicians have invented this term. There might be some anti-americans but one should not think that all non-americans are anti-americans. Otherwise there will be no difference between him and bin-laden logically.

Anti-american is an attitude or feeling created in non-Americans by the American actions, especially those of the policy makers in Washington D.C. But it is wrong to assume that all non-Americans are anti-American!

"there is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance --- that principle is contempt prior to investigation."
Herbert Spencer

It is normal for people to have contempt for what they do not undestand.
