Your hair may be feeling 'thicker' due to chlorine damage. Put a protective layer on your hair, e.g. conditioner & wear a swim cap, then wash in gentle DILUTED shampoo & use the best conditioner - either one that suits your hair best - or the most expensive.

It should be okay to swim immediately after the perm as all chemicals should/must be removed for the perm to 'hold'. If you're worried about this, just shampoo before hand, & leave the conditioner in without rinsing & put a swim cap on. Good luck!

First off I would wait before swimming atleast a week after perming, to make sure you have got the chemical completely out of your hair. Chlorine and the chemical for a perm do not mix well. Yes perm and Dyes damage your hair, but as long you keep it trimmed once a month and don't blow dry too much, and just take good care of it. DOn't use hair spray or mouse a lot. It should be okay.

well I do have a child that requires speacial hair needs.and a perm is safe as long you have it done with a professional, never home perm,it will burn your hair up.african american hair does great, with the right perm,we've come along way in the hair care.

I think perming is ok aslong as you wair (cringe!) a hair net while swimming and then wash it properly with a good shampoo and conditoner and by the way dont go for flashy brands of conditoner they just have plastic in them that coat your hair in it
