If you are handy you could buy everything you need at IKEA. However if you're not then you might need to look at getting a home equity loan or a project card at Home Depot or Lowe's and have one of their installers re-do your kitchen for you. To save money you could do the demolition yourself and possibly install your own flooring. But a kitchen you want to look nice and be function. Don't skimp on doing it yourself if you aren't a professional. The home supply stores might have some cabinets that someone ordered but didn't buy - but that would be pure luck if they actually fit.

Your cabinets that you have right now....would installing new hardware and a fresh coat of paint be the simple solution you are looking for? You can find some nice countertops for sale at the home supply stores - they are a breeze to install IF you have the right tools. I think by the time you buy the saws, glue and other tools it would be cheaper to hire someone to put in new countertops.

WAIT! Are they flat countertops? Can you sand them down to make them flat? If so, try installing tile on them - that's a quick fix! Some people use the 12x12 floor tiles and others use the 4x4 (bathroom) tiles. Just get a "DIY" book from the store, buy your supplies and have fun!

For cabinets i would go with Home Depot! I bought there cabinets the brand is Four Seasons let me tell you what they are a good low price cabinet I had one cabinet that once i installed it i noticed it had a crack in the inside of the door that was real small and i called the company and they sent me a brand new door for the cabinet no questions asked!! Plus they are a lifetime warranty cabinet. Great low price cabinets they been in the house for about four years now no problems!!!

Check out the local Habitat for Humanity store. If there is one your area, you'll find they sell all sorts of supplies at a discount for remodeling kitchens and bathrooms.

I also agree with the "Ikea" suggestions....ready to go, "easy" to assemble and generally decent quality and hip...

I think Menards has about the cheapest stuff. Lowes and Home Depot have a better quality. If you get the cheap stuff all it is is cheap fiber board, if you try to put in screws they strip right out. You would probably get the most for your money at Home Depot.
