I was told to go for NATURAL peanut butter but I looked at the nutrtion value and it's just as bad as Peter pan's or Jiffys. What gives? I mean It has all the bad fats and everything like like that just like 'Regular' peanut butter.

And if it's the good fats then how come the label doesn't say Monosaturated fat or Polyunsaturaded fat(somethin like that).

There is actually a "yes and no" to this question as the natural peanut butter is better in that it has none of the hydrogenated oils and fats like the regular kind (check the labels) and also no added sugar. It is still bad in that it has "aflotixins" (not sure the spelling) that are formed when the peanuts are in the ground and can cause health problems if consumed in too much quantity. Corn has some of this too as well. We continue to eat the natural peanut butter and some other regular peanuts as well, but just in limited quantities. Of course peanut butter has a lot of natural fat in it, but you should be watching your "fat" intake and limiting it to a portion of your diet regardless of what kind of food you are eating anyway. This allows us to eat such stuff as peanut butter, steak, cheesecake, and all as long as we do it in moderation and only as a small part of our intake of food. As long as you are not one of those people that eat peanut butter all the time you should not have any real effects from any aflotoxins in the peanut butter. Peanuts have lots of healthy nutrients in them otherwise and are a concentrated source of nutrition. Itis the "concentrated" part that tells you you only need "some" of it and not a lot. :-)

when they said natural you need to look at the ingredients. It should read like this, Ingredients: peanuts, salt. (nothing else)

you are trying to avoid the trans fats (partially hydrogenated any kind of oil). the natural fats in nuts are good for you and low on the GI list (that means they don't turn into sugars as fast as the stuff that is high on the GI list, like white bread).

where do you live? Trader Joes has a great tasting peanut butter that is natural and another one made from organic peanuts (even better - no pesticides).

good luck

Peanuts have "good" fats, but is very high in calories. A serving the size of a large marshmallow is 200 calories.

I'd be leary of trying "low fat" peanut butter since peanuts are naturally 75% fat.

I think it has something to do with the fact that commercial processed peanut butter might have extra sugar added, or it might by hydrogenated, whereas natural peanut butter doesn't. Not all fats are bad! Natural fats from nuts are quite healthy, in moderation. Plus, it's packed with protein.

Yes, natural does have peanut oil and fats, but it is unprocessed and contains no sugar. The big brand names are processed and contains sugar which makes it little more than peanut butter candy. Unprocessed, fresh pb is still better for you even with the oil. It is whole fresh nuts, uncooked, no sugar, contains fiber & more healthy. Try making your own-just put peanuts in a food processor and hit ON. Make it the consistency you want. Crunchy is way too good!

Because it doesn't contain 'Partilly Hydrogenated/ Hydrogenated oils...Which are REALLy bad for you. It's best to avoid those at all costs. I wish they made a 'fat free' Peanut Butter (Duh....Peanuts...ain't gonna happen, lol!)

Compare the ingridients. I think the bad stuff (peter pan, etc.) have preservetives, sugar and extra oil.
