Religion is full of dos and don'ts. Spirtuallity is being sensitive to your spiritual self. As you have your physical self and your mental self, there's also your spiritual self. It's rather difficult to explain. It's the part of you that knows when you've lied and may have hurt someone. Some might call it your conscious (however it's spelled (you know, like Jiminy Cricket)) but it's more than that. This is also the part of you hates someone when all they've done is hold a different opinion than your own. It's also the irrational side of you that says that everyone in front of you on the highway is crazy and everyone behind you is a jerk. That, I think, is the best way I can describe it.

I've often wondered this myself. The best answer i can come up with is that being spiritual is belief in something greater then yourself. You're not exactly sure what it might be and you're okay with that. Being religious is when you follow a religion that is often times already lined out and ready for you to listen to. Being spiritual on the other hand is much more personal.

Being spiritual is creating and constantly striving to have a closer connection to, or relationship with God.
Being religious is ascribing to a certain set of beliefs that are often contradictory and at times amount to little more than a lie that people tell about God.
This becomes obvious when you look at the way that the various religions say that anyone who's beliefs differ from theirs are going to hell.
Obviously they all can't be right about this or everyone is going to hell.
I find this highly unlikely.

Being spiritual simply implies a knowledge of the spirit/ spiritual realm and a belief in doing things which keep the spirit healthy .
Being religious usually implies the belief in a particular set of ideas, tenets, rituals, etc. that go along with choosing a particular denomination.
You can be a christ follower and be extrememly spiritual without espousing and denominations beliefs. You can be spiritual without following Christ.
You cannot be religious without following a specific doctrine.

I have a friend who is very spiritual but not religious.
A lot of people say they are on a quest to find their way religiously. Or they are on a path that will lead them to their final beliefs. And religion helps them "find their way".
Z. has held her beliefs since she was young and lives her life by them. She doesn't question. She doesn't waver. She lives her life honoring her beliefs to the best of her ability.
My answer to the question is that being spiritual is accepting a truth without question and living your life by it.
Religious is wanting to find a truth to live your life by.
Spirituality is the destination and religion is the road some people use to get there.

Being spiritual means to be on the quest for answers regarding what cannot be proved and having to do with the purpose of life, being religious means to have the answers. I'm spiritual 'cause those answers are not enough for me.

One is internal, the other external. Being spiritual means following your spirit whatever the external rules. Being religious means adhering to the forms and practices whether you feel it inside or not. Being religious can be a cruel deception without spirituality inside it. And, my central point ... you can be exceedingly spiritual and never see the inside of a church, but the Powers That Be don't want that, they want your attendance, your money, your efforts and your subservience. Don't give it to them. More important to me than being either religious or spiritual is being true to your own morals; I'd aim for that. Good luck and God bless.

Religion is a gathering of people who beleive in the same ideas. These ideas become a doctrine. The larger the group the more important they become. When the group becomes large enough, to attract attention, it becomes recognized as a religious group. They give it a name. They collect money from the group and construct buildings. Someone in the group claims to know the word of God. This is the preacher. He talks about God and the others listen. Since most of us have to work to keep alive we don't have time to read doctrines for a living. So we go to the building and listen to the preacher.
Spiritual people don't go to buildings and listen to preachers. Each one is connected to a higher spirit who guides them in their lives. This higher spirit is a conscious being connected to God. If your mind is quiet you can hear what this spirit is saying.

Being Spiritual doesn't need you to be Religious; while being Religious can have you going far away from being Spiritual.
For example, Muslims are very "Religous" and are regimented and you cannot think of using the word Spiritual, when referring to them, can you?
