Of course murder is murder, and any loss of life is to be regretted. But if you are a Russian agent and you betray your former masters and then start openly criticising them, the writing really is on the wall. If you play ball in that court, one day you are going to lose.
Meanwhile, while the news covers this non-story, Tony Blair and his cronies continue to form the Government and the cash for peerages story is forgotten.
The media has decided that the Prime Minister selling Parliamentary seats is not as important as the murder of a foreign national.
The murder of our own citizens often fails to make any national press at all, and when it does it is rarely headline news.
What on Earth is going on?

YSome of the answers prove my point - those of you who have read the headlines but not the story. This type of radiation needs to be administered, not picked up from an aeroplane seat. The fact that traces have been found on planes is merely an evidence trail, not something to fear. I suspect Americans amongst those who have answered and who jump in fear at the slightest thing. I do not say it is not interesting, I just say it does not have any substance to make it a main story. Much more important things are happening and this story is hiding them. Why on earth is anyone surprised that the second most powerful (in atomic terms) nation has access to radioactive material? I suspect that both the USA and Britain could access a few pounds of it tomorrow. It seems that most people are blinded by the hype and blind to the reasons behind it. Britain has nothing to fear from Russian agents - but we do from others who seek to disrupt our lives.

How would yhou. god forbid, like to be on one of the planes that was contaminated, If we don't watch out this could be the new form of terrorism. Bush said a whiule back I looked into his {Putin} eyes and saw this is a man I can work with. It shows that Russia is not a democracy as Putin would have us believe All these things make it an important story

this is the type of thing that wars and social unrest are caused from. they will act cautiously to prevent any inpropriety from occurring.
especially if it is a high level person responsible in a government. they need to think about the repercussions from the charges. i dont think they fully know who is involved yet anyway.
im sure they will find a scapegoat and make up a proper story for it that will satify most people.
that is usually how it is done.
they dont want to mess with the power structure or the flow of gas and oil from the east, etc.

Headlines as the one you mentioned are intended to bring upset to hopefully the overall group(which is the intent).......to entice panic - which is often also done in racial issues(sad to say)......as if to point out "attack" of any form on one specific group.
This particular item however should be a wake up call in the midst of many terrorist actions......because if "secretly" can do away with one in the midst of many - what can be done in the still amongst many?
Face it, we live in very different times and as much as they continue to try and stuff "tolerance" down our throats - the general mindset is there really is not any.....my way or my way or you will be done in.
May God continue to have mercy on our nation!

The man was poisoned by a highly lethal radioactive material. The notion that this material is in the hands of people who will act against others is frightening, given the world as it stands today.

Its kind of refreshing for an old intelligence specialist like me to see that cold war skullduggery is alive and well.
What troubles me is that the Muslim terrorist are observing the over-reaction to the event, and the media attention is probably making their uncleansed mouths drool even harder for nuclear material to put in bombs...

Not me. He got what he deserved, he even wasn't an agent, used to serve in a convoy party in Chechnya, not a true-born FSB-officer. And obviously a sick person - I mean mentally. Just have a look at his face.
