It's just a form of shorthand,
sure text messaging started it out,
but now it has carried over to chat rooms because it is fast and takes up less space on the page.
a lot of 30 somethings do a lot of text messaging.
one other thing is that there are a lot of people here who live all over the world.
all of them do not know english as thier first language.
how many languages do you speak?

The only time I do it, is if I am text messaging from my cell phone, have you ever tried to text from your cell phone? If not try it then you will see why it feels necessary to do. As far as any other time, I don't think I do, but now I will do it jut for U. Did you thk dat waz da wy?

Very good point! I imagine if their parents who probably paid for their vey expensive education saw them writing like that they would probably check themselves into the looney bin blabbering what did they do wrong...sad thing it is!

It does bug me. It's like reading a whole other language - one that I'm not at all conversant in - that I have to translate back to English to understand. I hate that!
